Sewing sheer fabrics can be VERY frustrating… especially if you don’t know all the “rules” for sewing sheer fabrics. The material is slippery… the pins rip the fabric… the sewing machine jams up… and the side seams on your curtains end up too short! Argh! I’ve had the same problems too. There are some simple rules you can follow that will give you positive results when sewing shear fabrics.
In this episode of How To Sew With Jenny T., Jenny T. shares with you 12 important tips for sewing sheer fabrics.

Thank You, JennyT!!! Your sewing tips are sooo helpful. I was procrastinating on cutting some #$%* sheer fabric when Tip #3 arrived with fortuitous timing. These tips are great! I’ve been test sewing this accursed sheer fabric with paper underneath (for stability), but didn’t like the results. But without the paper the fabric jams in the bobbin casing & is basically un-sewable. Your advice works much better. I can’t thank you enough!

Wonderful! Great tips and very practical advice. I look forward to trying them out. One note, I think small samples (visuals) would be helpful for the various tips and explanations. I also like the direction to the other websites and that the information is free. What a gift!

Sure wish I’d had this information 3 years ago when a friend had me do a whole house full of curtains/draperies. I almost lost my mind trying to figure out what I’d done wrong with the sides of the sheers. It almost made me want to give up sewing. Now I know, and can’t wait to do my own sheers now. Thanks again!

I have 6 yards of sheer fabric waiting to be made into something wonderful, but I didn’t know how to sew sheer fabric. Your advice sounds great and, as the others have said, so practical. I am going to pull it out and give it a try. Thanks for the real, user-friendly advice!
